Adoption Process

Felines & Canines adoption counselors make our very best effort to place every animal that comes to us in a safe, loving and permanent home. Because it is our responsibility to make sure that our animals get a better chance the second time around, we do have adoption rules and requirements. All members of the household must be present when adopting an animal. Adding a pet to your household should be a decision that everyone feels good about! We work hard at playing “match-maker” and finding the right family for each pet and vice versa. It is also our mission to provide every person who visits Felines & Canines with a positive experience. We wouldn’t be able to save the lives of animals in need without the support of our community, adopters, volunteers and donors. We appreciate you considering adoption first!

Visit the shelter and meet our wonderful animals in person! We are open 7 days a week from 12:30-6:00 pm and are located in Chicago at 6379 N. Paulina St. on the corner of Paulina and Devon (Entrance on Devon side of the building.) Metered street parking available on Devon, free street parking on Paulina!

Please note that we do have an adoption fee in order to cover the costs of testing, vaccinating, micro-chipping and spaying/neutering all of the animals who come to us. Cats are $100 (or $150 for a pair), Dogs 6 months and older are $225, Puppies under 6 months are $250 (unless otherwise noted).

In order to be considered for an adoption you must:

  • Fill out an adoption application – subject to Felines & Canines approval
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in your household
  • Provide a valid ID with a current address
  • Provide your landlord’s name and phone number (or lease)
